The latest results released by the Shanghai Ranking system for the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2025 highlight the remarkable progress of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. In the fields of medical sciences and engineering, the university has secured stronger positions, competing successfully with leading universities worldwide. This achievement follows the university’s placement among the top 1,000 institutions in the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities.

Within the GRAS academic field of Medical Sciences in Public Health, Dentistry & Oral Sciences, and Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences recorded significant improvement. Progress was also evident in the Engineering field, specifically in Food Science & Technology. These advancements reflect the dedication and excellence of the university’s faculty, researchers, and students, as well as the institution’s commitment to high-impact scientific output, innovative research, and international collaboration. This upward trajectory strengthens the university’s ability to maintain and build upon its global standing.

Shanghai Ranking first introduced subject-specific university rankings in 2009, later renaming them the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) in 2017. GRAS now evaluates universities across 57 subjects in five broad fields: Natural Sciences (8 subjects), Engineering (25 subjects), Life Sciences (4 subjects), Medical Sciences (6 subjects), and Social Sciences (14 subjects). Rankings are determined using nine objective indicators grouped into five categories: World-Class Faculty, World-Class Research Output, High-Quality Research, Research Impact, and International Collaboration. Each year, GRAS presents approximately 20,000 subject units from around 2,000 universities across nearly 100 countries and regions. Eligibility requires universities to meet publication thresholds set for each subject, based on output between 2020 and 2024.

Key Achievements of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in GRAS 2025

- Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences: Improved from the 150-200 range to the 101-150 range globally, the best result in the university’s history for this subject.
